The collection includes three items: a daybook in which George Blackmer recorded the expenses incurred in building his new house at 111 Penhurst Park; a printed pamphlet about Penhurst Park; and an undated watercolor drawing of the Blackmer residence, which was done by A. Verbeck. The watercolor is of a side view of the house, showing part of the garden. On the back is a partial drawing of the front of another house. The pamphlet was printed by the Penhurst Park Company to promote its development. It includes two photographs of the newly landscaped street, architects' sketches of houses to be built (including Dr. Blackmer's house), and maps of the area. The daybook includes the building permit issued to Dr. Blackmer on November 9, 1909. However, entries in the daybook show that excavation for the house had actually begun on August 18, 1909. The expense records are not very detailed, although it is clear from them that purchases included tools, sand, gravel, stone, shingles, lime (for plaster), and paint. Other expenses were the architects' bill, cost of a stove to be used in the construction shed, insurance, telephone bill, cost of hanging wallpaper in the attic, etc. Final totals for amounts spent on labor, material, painting, plastering, plumbing, wiring, floors, and general expenses are included. The house cost almost $15,000, and according to a note in the daybook, the Blackmer family moved in on June 29, 1910.

George M. Blackmer was a physician in Buffalo, New York. In 1909, he began building a home at 111 Penhurst Park. The house was designed by the architectural firm of Green and Wicks (Edward B. Green and William Sydney Wicks). In 2002, the house was the residence of the person who was the mayor of Buffalo. William Sydney Wicks was born in Trenton, New York (Oneida County) on July 27, 1854. After completing his education studying architecture at Cornell University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Wicks worked briefly in the Boston office of Peabody and Sterns.
